Maya Archaeology Initiative - Home Description: The Maya Archaeology Initiative is a new, publicly funded NGO launched in February 2010 to fund cultural and archaeological programs in Mesoamerica. Led by Boston University’s Dr. Francisco Estrada-Belli, the MAI’s goal is to increase awareness of Maya culture in North America and raise money for archaeological and educational programs. Children throughout Mesoamerica often are not taught about their pre-Spanish Conquest heritage.
